Helping Your Child Love Nature

One way to encourage your child’s interest in nature is by going on outdoor trips.  These can range from hikes on walking trails to vacations that include camping and fishing in the woods.  Have your child help select supplies and equipment for your dog who will accompany you on your trips.  Give your child the job of caring for the dog.  Be one of the families who takes their dog along when they go on extended journeys; some bring them on skiing trips and outdoor vacations – even on exciting activities like whitewater rafting and canoeing.  Involve the kids in selecting items for your pet when preparing for your trip.  Let them find the Groupon promo codes and pick the items to order.

Hospital Reunion

My grandfather (Mom’s uncle) was admitted to the hospital last January due the infection on his left toes. He is a diabetic for years now but we were told that the infection was caused by the nail he stepped onto when the flood hit their place. Because of his condition, he did not immediately notice the nail that was stuck on his toe until late that afternoon. He was given Tetanus Toxoid in the nearest hospital that day.

They thought that the medication given was enough but a few days after, Lolo Carling’s fourth toe on the left foot swollen and darkened so they went to the hospital for checkup but the doctor decided to cut off the toe :( . They expected that everything will turn out fine but after a week, the third and fifth toes were also infected and almost all part of his left leg were swollen. They rushed Lolo to the hospital but they were advised that the doctors are in Davao City for convention so they decided to proceed to Davao Doctor’s Hospital.

I haven’t seen my grandmother and grandfather for more than ten years because they are residing in South Cotabato. They actually didn’t even recognize me at first because I came in the room without my mom. They are not that familiar with Davao City so I offered to help in anyway I can. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to assist them with their needs in and out of the hospital until the day they went home. It was my grandfather’s second time to be admitted to the hospital and considered to be the longest experience in his seventy years of existence. Read the rest of this entry »

Our Aunt’s Unexpected Visit

The only surviving grandmother I have is living in the province. No matter how we convinced her to stay with us in the city, she would insist to stay in her “kubo” alone. Since, South Cotabato is a long drive from Davao, we only get to see her every once in a while. If my mother has enough time, she would commute to visit my grandmother.

During my mother’s last visit to my grandmother’s place, she noticed that her sister looks very sick. She was told that Aunt Elena has been like that for several months already. She got so worried with her sister’s condition so she encouraged her to come with her in Davao to see a doctor.

The doctor initially suspected that my  Aunt has tuberculosis based on the symptoms seen on her. After the X-ray and several tests conducted on her sputum, the doctor confirmed that she don’t have TB yet but she needs thorough medication.
